One of those days.

One of the cons of living where we do, is that we have no library. The closest library is a 15 minute drive to Salem. And because I'm not a resident of Salem (and too cheap to pay the $60 a year) I am only allowed to check out one book at a time. The kids are allowed 25. Since the library is not too convenient, we only make it about once a month. So I decided to make the trip today. We got to the library, got everything unloaded, paid the parking meter and made it up to the childrens section. They have a great interactive room where the kids can do hands on things. The theme of the room changes every couple of months. So we arrive and I say, "oh good, the kids' room is still open." The lady behind the desk quickly told me, "oh we are closing right now." So the kids were a little bummed, because they had new stuff to play with. So we went straight to the books. I get Claire out of the stroller and prepare to spend some time browsing the books. I look over and Claire is busy doing a doody. Of course, I had left the diapers in the car. Babies seem to have this sixth sense. It's like they KNOW when you don't have any diapers. So we spend another few minutes gathering up books and then we head out to the car. (after I bribed the kids with McDonalds) Where I discover that I am also out of wipes. So our trip to the library was a flop. And to make matters worse, when I got home I had received a summons to jury duty in the mail. Honestly, this is like the 5th time I have been summoned to jury duty. Whereas my hubby.....never! Don't they know how hard it is to find someone to take a child to school, a babysitter for three other children...all day, someone to pick up child from school, someone to take child to t-ball...ugh. It would be sooo much easier for the hubby! I wish he could just go in my place. So, sorry about all of the complaining today...it's just one of those days.

Man, that is a whopper of a day! Birch and I have never been summoned. I thought there was some sort of exemption for mothers and being able to get out of jury duty.

I say it is a night to order pizza, put the kids to bed early, and watch American Idol.

That sounds stinky all the way around. I feel your pain! I didn't realize Keizer didn't have a library. Gee, with all that growth, you would think they would be able to do something about that.

I myself only get summoned for city jury duty. Every year it seems like. Since it's for night court only, and Molalla only has about 7,000 residents, I have never had to attend. Craig was summoned for it this year, and he has been summoned twice for federal duty.
I agree with the pizza and American Idol. Heck, throw in some ice cream, it can't affect a diet that much, right? =) well, maybe if you just tell yourself that.

I feel your pain. I had to laugh a little, only because you could have substituted my name in there and it would have been a relatively accurate description of how a trip to the library might go for me. Jury Duty: Yeah, I had jury duty in October. Talk about a waste of time. My sweet husband was the prosecutor for the case. Obviously, I was not going to actually be selected for his jury. Was it really necessary for me to find a babysitter for me to go, everyone knowing full well I'd be excused during jury selection???

I know that day! I have lived it a couple of times! That is a little funny with the jury duty though! Larry is now serving and went in today! I has been summoned about 4 times since we have been married and never me! Even though it is a pay cut and hard for his employers it is easier on our family that is for sure!

Sorry about your crazy day! I've been called to jury duty several times too. I actually think it'd be interesting if I didn't have all the kids to take care of - like you said. It's not a huge deal to get someone to help with the kids for a day or two, but I was always worried about what would happen if you got picked to be on a jury and it lasted a long time - that would be a nightmare trying to arrange things for your kids everyday. If you let them know of your situation, they will excuse you from jury duty. Good luck.

What a bummer, and yet, so funny.

But how do you stand only checking out one book at a time????
