Decorating advice!

Help! We need your advice. Brent and I are thinking about replacing our countertops. But we keep putting the project off because we aren't sure what to do. Brent would like to go with a darker color,(dark grey, black) but i'm not sure how that would look against the white fridge, stovetop, etc. We are just having a hard time deciding. So check out the picture and give us your advice...please! As I look at this pic I realize the lighting isn't too good, sorry! Hopefully you can still get an idea.

Claire loves bathtime! She has sure been fun lately...her personality really seems to be coming out. She is now an expert stair climber..I just wish she would learn how to get down.
We had a fun weekend. Brent and I finally had our "Valentine's Date" Saturday night. We went up to the Portland grill. Our favorite restaurant in the whole world. It's on the 30th floor of the us bancorp building in Portland, so there is a fantastic view. And their braised short ribs are to die for! So we enjoyed a great meal and then went to see "jumper" at the theater. It was definately not a movie we would recommend. It was okay...but not great. The plot was pretty lame and it just wasn't what we expected. Oh well...it was still fun to be together with no kids. We have to thank my mom for watching the kids for us and giving us a night out!

I can't believe YOU are asking decorating advice. I'm not sure I know a better decorator than YOU!!! We LOVE LOVE our new countertops. I love the variegated colors and texture that it has. I love the darker color and that it doesn't even show the grime after everyone has finished eating lunch. I LOVE the wood trim and the way that it really sets off the counter. Maybe you need to come for a quick Yakima visit. I could send you more pictures. The brand and style that we love is Wilsonart High Definition Deepstar. http://samples.wilsonart.com/c-53-deepstar.aspx We might even have a sample that we could bring next week to Spokane. They have several different shades. The best price we found was at Great Floors.

I also am in the same boat that you are in. It is hard to visualize what will look good in your kitchen. We have grey countertops right now, and had the white appliances, and I liked the look. Now that we've switched to the black and stainless, I would like to switch the color up a bit. I love that high definition laminate. I can't believe how many colors and textures there are out there. I am torn on the marble, granite, corian(sp?) countertops. They are SO expensive, and I think with the technology that is available you can get some great stuff for a lot less. I think if your dark grey or black had some verigation, it would look fantastic, and the dark countertops, and your dark walls will really balance out with your lighter cabinets and floor. Keep us posted, sounds exciting!

Deena - I agree with Jonna. I think the darker colors, maybe gray would look really good with the red, especially if it had a few lighter colors mixed in with it? I'm definitely not an expert, but that's just my opinion.
